MALACCA: Value Hospitality Group of Hotels will support World Earth Day with money
saved from washing less linen and towels.
Group general manager Dennis Tan said that all nine hotels in the group would place
signs in rooms informing guests that RM1 in water usage would be saved for each
guest who reused his or her linen and towels.
He said the hotel would donate the savings to a fund supporting community service
and environmental programmes led by the Government and non-governmental organisations.
“We have been considering the programme over the past two years.
“In January, we initiated the programme at ParkCity Everly Hotel in Bintulu,” he
said. Since then, there had been a positive response and the savings were between
RM5,000 and RM10,000 a month, he said.
Earlier, state Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Seet
Har Cheow officially launched the Save The Earth Campaign and Miss Malaysia Earth
Pageant by planting a tree at Everly Resort.
In his speech, Seet said that environment programmes like the pageant helped promote
awareness on working towards a cleaner environment.
He said the pageant helped boost the state’s tourism sector that recorded 1.9 million
tourists in first four months of this year.
A total of 15 finalists will vie for the Miss Malaysia Earth crown at the finals
here on July 12.
